Oudtshoorn, 25 April 2013

Please read the attached letter which I received last week.

On the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi) on 02 June at 5.00pm, Pope Francis will celebrate a Holy Hour of Eucharistic Adoration at St. Peter’s in Rome. An appeal has been made that at the same time a Holy Hour be held in cathedrals throughout the world and, where possible, in parish churches as well. This would be a wonderful public demonstration during this Year of Faith of our faith in the presence of Christ in the Eucharist.

I realize that plans have already been made to have deanery celebrations and celebrations in parishes or clusters of parishes. If you have not yet planned anything or if you are able to add this Holy Hour to your existing programme please do so. You may also advertise the Holy Hour that will take place at our cathedral at the same time as the St. Peter’s celebration. I am sure that Oudtshoorn people could attend the Deanery procession and Mass at St. Nicholas in the morning and the Holy Hour at the Cathedral at 5.00pm.

Should you be able to organize a Holy Hour in your parish on Sunday 02 June at 5.00pm please let me know. We could then advertise these in neighbouring parishes where there will not be one. I can then also send in a report to the Year of Faith committee who are always looking for information as to what is happening in the local churches to celebrate the Year of Faith.

Whatever celebrations we organize or participate in this feast of Corpus Christi may it be faith-filled and a witness to all that Christ is Risen and lives amongst us!

God bless.
