We are now in the holy season of Lent. Our annual diocesan pilgrimage to the Kruisberg in Dysselsdorp takes place this coming Sunday. The Stations of the Cross will take place at 8.00am. The focus this year will be on Vocations with the theme CALLED BY NAME. “I have called you by your name you are mine.”   (Isaiah 43:1)

Mass will be celebrated at 11.00am in the Amphitheatre of the Don Bosco Youth Camp. Between the Stations of the Cross and the celebration of Mass there will be a period of Praise and Worship, reflections on the theme and tributes to Fr. Johannes Rankel SAC who died on 12 January.  Fr. Rankel served the community at Dysselsdorp from 1969 to 1993. During this time he was instrumental in realising the building of the Youth Camp and the Stations of the Cross on the Kruisberg along with most of the other Church buildings in Dysselsdorp.

A blessed New Year to all!

One of the first big events of the new year was the Chapter of Elections at the Monastery of Capuchin Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration in Swellendam yesterday.   The new abbess is Mother Irma Guzman Romero. The vicar and first councillor is Sister Flor de Maria Pacheco Rodriguez and the second councillor is Sister Maria de Los Angeles Moreno Luquin.

We congratulate the community on the election of their leadership team and assure them of our love and our prayers.

The 13 sisters in the community have perpetual adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and all are welcome to come and spend time in prayer in their chapel where there is daily Mass and the chanting of the Divine Office – the official Prayer of the Church – at different times of the day.   The sisters also bake altar breads, make church vestments and run a retreat centre where individuals and groups can make a retreat at a very reasonable cost.

Their telephone number is 028 514 1319.
